Creative Commons European Vocational Skills Week 2019

Since 2016, the European Commission dedicates one week every year to Vocational Education Training (VET). An annual 7-day event where VET professionals and learners across sectors gather to discuss, exchange innovative ideas and success stories, identify areas of cooperation and build partnerships. The 2019 EU Vocational Skills Week was organised in Helsinki from 14 to 18 of October and members of the Live Skills team had the chance to participate in this year’s event.

It was a marvellous opportunity to meet people from different countries, sectors and organisations, all of them having the same goals: to share the benefits of VET, presenting success stories of VET learners finding a job, becoming more entrepreneurial and building their own career path.

Moving between different sessions, talks, interactive workshops, informal exchanges, the event covered, among others, how inclusion and diversity are addressed in VET and how digitalisation of many professions has led to the need for updated skills that meet the demands of the labour market.

“Ιt was an amazing opportunity to talk to experts and peers in Vocational Training and Education, to meet other VET schools that are equipping their learners with 21-century skills and to share our project activities. The interest of participants in getting to know better the materials the project partners are developing proved once again that Live Skills is addressing relevant skills gaps and that other sectors and schools can benefit from them via our website.”
Nikos Gamouras, Live Skills project manager - British Council
